  On January 18-19, 2004 in a twelve hour City Commission meeting the City of Tarpon Springs, despite the opposition from the largest citizen’s turnout in the history of Tampa Bay, voted in favor of the proposal by Wal-Mart to build a super center on the banks of the Anclote River. This meeting was attended by over 400 citizens who feel this development is unnecessary and will have a negative impact on the Anclote river, the small town businesses, the small town ambiance, and history of this Greek community which attracts tourists daily.

  Attended meeting of the Riverwatch HOA, last night with the Mayor and City Manager. Riverwatch is located on the east side of U.S. 19, just south of the Pasco County line. A number of residents voiced their concerns regarding vehicular access in and out of their neighborhood and I was directed to forward their concerns to FDOT for appropriate action. Specifically, they had the following comments. 1. Vehicles exiting Riverwatch northbound on U.S. 19 are having difficulty merging into traffic since the improvements were made to the roadway adjacent to Northern Tool. 2. The southbound to eastbound median turning lane on U.S. 19 does not allow enough stacking of vehicles during peak hours. 3. Additional street lights are needed at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Riverwatch Boulevard so the entrance is more visible to drivers. I’ve attached an aerial photograph from 2006 of the area for reference. From the City of Tarpon Springs ~ Development Services Department ~ Approved Tree List (Section 134.03, LDC) All trees shall be grade Florida #1 or better, in a 15 gallon pot, and have a minimum 1 and 1/2 inch diameter measured 12 inches above ground, with a minimum crown of 2 feet and a minimum height of 6 feet upon planting. The species shall come from the following list unless an alternative planting material is approved by the City Staff.
